Policy Name: Internet WAN Acceptable Use Policy

W̱SB provides the opportunity for students to access online communication through the internet or world wide web. Your signature or approval on the bottom will be considered your consent.

Students will be able to access information from around the world and bring it to their school computer via this electronic connection. On-line information technology skills are now considered necessary part of technical/information literacy and part of the Curriculum of the Province of British Columbia. This opportunity to learn about and through on-line information is a career /life skill that has great potential benefit for your student.

Access to the World Wide Web can open up potential problems as well. It is the potential that requires us to inform you the opportunity to withdraw consent. On-line communication can be misused. Students may receive inappropriate content that may range from mildly offensive jokes to obscene, pornographic, sexist or racist material. We use sophisticated means to screen this to inappropriate material. Appropriate use is the shared responsibility, the school will strive to establish and maintain shared expectations around on-line etiquette and the ethical use of computer communications. As in other areas, open communication between parent and students about the Internet; personal safety and personal ethics is vital in building responsibility.

Teachers will occasionally monitor student's use of the school's online infrastructure to ensure appropriate use. Students who deliberately use their Internet access in a way that in contrary to the Acceptable Use Policy will face disciplinary action and loss of computer privileges.
